If you’re looking for an easy and fun (albeit messy) activity to do with your kids, look no further.
My kids have been cooped up and watching way too much TV lately, so I decided to let them do something creative on the porch - painting! We didn’t have any paint that I would feel comfortable with my 2-year-old using because he puts everything in his mouth, so I got creative myself.
This recipe really only needs 2 ingredients, but you can add others if you so desire. All you need is heavy whipping cream and food coloring!
I got a pint of heavy whipping cream from the store (it doesn’t matter what brand), and I already had food coloring at home.
Pour all of the whipping cream into a mixing bowl and use a whisk or electric mixer to whip it until it’s starting to solidify, but not quite the texture of whipped cream.
Divide it into as many bowls as you want colors, with a spoon or paintbrush for each. Add a few drops of the desired color to each bowl (for purple - mix red and blue, for orange - mix yellow and red). Mix until completely blended, and voila! You’re done.
Now you can take your kids out to the porch or the yard or wherever you feel comfortable letting them make a mess, and let them go at it! Mine started out painting on the back of giant wall calendar pages, then moved onto painting the storm door. *shrug* Oh well, I just hosed it off afterwards.
If you wanted to add flavors to it, you can mix in a few drops of vanilla or other flavored extracts.
This activity is a great way to teach colors, paint pictures, and just have fun together!
